Imported cargo containers subject to biosecurity and quarantine waste treatment

Biosecurity & Quarantine Waste Disposal

Compliant treatment of imported and intercepted goods, in line with DAFF directions.

When imported goods fail biosecurity inspection, or are directed for destruction by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF), they must be moved and treated through approved pathways within strict timeframes. AAS coordinates quarantine waste disposal for importers and the logistics businesses that support them.

Send your DAFF direction and we match the required treatment method, arrange secure transport from port, airport or bonded facility, and provide pricing within one business day. Every consignment is tracked through to verified treatment, so you can close out the direction with confidence.

Meeting DAFF biosecurity requirements

Biosecurity waste must be handled under the Biosecurity Act 2015 and DAFF directions, using approved arrangements for transport, storage and treatment methods such as high-temperature incineration, autoclaving or deep burial. Transport and treatment are also subject to state EPA regulations.

AAS coordinates secure logistics, traceability and approved treatment pathways, and provides the documentation you need to demonstrate that directed goods were treated as required.

Frequently asked questions

What is quarantine waste?

Quarantine waste, also called biosecurity waste, is material that may carry exotic pests or diseases into Australia. It includes international food and galley waste, non-compliant imported goods and contaminated packaging, and must be treated under DAFF-approved arrangements.

What should I do if DAFF directs my goods for destruction?

Send us the DAFF direction along with the consignment details. We will confirm the required treatment method, arrange compliant transport and treatment, and provide pricing within one business day.

How is quarantine waste treated?

Depending on the direction and waste type, treatment may include high-temperature incineration, autoclaving (steam sterilisation) or deep burial at an approved site.

Do you work with freight forwarders and customs brokers?

Yes. Many of our clients are forwarders and brokers who need a reliable, fast partner to resolve directions on behalf of their importer customers.
